Michael Massaia NJ Retrospective – Gallery 270 Englewood Grand Opening

Englewood Gallery Walk October 17th-19th 2013

Ferris Wheel at Jersey Shore by Michael Massaia

Though much maligned as the punch line in many jokes, New Jersey is a state that always has been home to an outsize percentage of great artists in many fields. Central to much of this art is a sense of loneliness and isolation. Michael Massaia’s many bodies of work are an attempt at finding a connection to things that most others would never think of looking at. Whether it was the Afterlife portfolio’s amusement park rides along the gritty boardwalk of Seaside Heights seen by millions, but ultimately not seen, the phantasmagorical big rig trucks of his Seeing The Black Dog portfolio, or the suburban homes of In The Final Throes, all express a desire for connection among the disaffected.

We are pleased to show this work in a manner never before presented that traces the common thread which unites through the entire body all of this provocative artists oeuvre. While one can enjoy this work electronically , seeing these luminous and unprecedented hand wrought split toned silver gelatin and platinum/palladium prints all made by the artist is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Please join us for the Englewood Gallery Walk on October 17, from 6 pm – 9 pm and October 18 and 19th from 11 am – 6 pm. This marks the debut of Gallery 270 as solely a fine art gallery at 10 N Dean St. We’re presenting a NJ retrospective by Michael Massaia combining the work of 3 different NJ based portfolios.

As we mark the year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, a portion of proceeds from the show is being donated to ongoing relief efforts in NJ.
