There are few things that are more disappointing than melted ice cream. That is unless the process is captured over time by photographer Michael Massaia.

Transmogrify is a brilliant series of long exposure photography by the artist from New Jersey [holla!]. Various ice cream treats are placed on a stark black background and, using little more than available light, Massaia documents the treats coming apart.

The result is a beautiful display of colors, ephemera, and virtual motion — at times resembling deep-space photography or a full-color Rorschach test. Finally, melted ice cream that doesn’t disappoint.

Transmogrify is currently on display at Gallery 270 in New Jersey.
