Melchior Digiacomo picked up a camera by accident in 1968 and began teaching himself photography. Eventually leaving his job at CBS to attempt freelance photography he soon moved to photography full time. After moving to London he played and photographed the game of rugby and a year after his return to the USA, he brought his rugby photography to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The esteemed director, John Szarkowski selected four images for the permanent collection and exhibited one in a group show.
Even Melchior Digiacomo’s “commercial work” for Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, People, Paris Match, Tennis Week, and other leading publications, show his signature stamp of “humanity”. His personal work seems to bring more laughs than tears, each equally fetching and his photographic oeuvre is absolute proof of the maxim “chance favors the prepared mind” and always with camera in hand he is prepared and ready for the “decisive moment.”
