Michael Massaia: The New Romantic In-Person Gallery Opening – April 21 at 6 pm

In-person gallery openings have been sparse of late. So it’s with extra joy and excitement that we welcome you, family and friends back to visit Gallery 270 on Thursday April 21 from 6 pm-8pm for Michael Massaia: The New Romantic. Our spring celebration of Michael Massaia’s premiere showing of select images from his Deep In A Dream II, Drop The Sun and The New Romantic portfolios at 270 Westwood Ave, Westwood is an event not to miss.

Writers have been falling over themselves in attempting to find proper words describing our experiences during the last few years. I doubt they’d find any form of the word “romantic” being the least bit appropriate in accounting for the times we’re seeing, feeling and living through. Media and popular literature has made a very strong case that we’re amidst “a graceless age”;  the notion of “romance” banished from sight! Were it not for our resident diligent and always driven artist Michael Massaia, I’d be among that group who’d be quick to agree.

A year ago, we presented the third chapter of his “Afterlife“ series portfolio, conceived just before, and completed almost entirely during the the lockdowns of the covid crisis.  “Afterlife III” continued his exploration of the beachfront amusement towns along the New Jersey coastline that he first explored in 2008, but in 2020 documenting the “off season” in the southernmost NJ towns during the increasingly dystopian atmosphere in the face of the looming pandemic.

This year Gallery 270 is thrilled to present Michael Massaia: “The New Romantic”: more of the unceasing artistic achievement by this force of nature, premiering select images from his Deep In A  Dream II, Drop The Sun and The New Romantic portfolios.

Please join us for light refreshments and help us welcome Michael Massaia and the latest prints from new and past portfolios that continue his pushing the boundaries of the possible in classic handmade photographic printing.
